Bio

Hi, I'm Carolyn, a full stack designer passionate about digital transformation. I have 10 years of experience designing for multiple customer products across web, mobile, and SaaS.

My passion is driven by a belief that all people deserve easy, pleasant experiences, so they will feel empowered to try and achieve new things. I have found it especially impactful to streamline complex, information-rich tasks such as understanding insurance, managing finances, and finding and registering for the right college courses.

Originally working as a graphic designer, I gained increasing responsibilities of working in the web environment on dynamic content. Leading two global policyholder website rebrands at Liberty Mutual, I realized the power of being user-centric in my design process and data-informed in my decision making. I conducted customer journey mapping; card sorting exercises; iterated on page layouts and user flows; developed highly structured and detailed plans to communicate goals, requirements, analytics and KPIs clearly (and ensure a repeatable process); involved cross-department perspectives in the solution creation process; QA'd; and launched marketing and promotional material. After just a couple of years, I became a product manager in addition to maintaining my role as lead designer, playing a critical role in communicating with stakeholders and representing my subset of users’ needs throughout new digital transformation initiatives. Helping reimagine new product ideas, I became inspired by designers at the forefront of improving internal business processes, culture, and customer experiences.

I reinforced my experiences by completing coding classes, and two UX certification programs. I then switched from FinTech to EdTech to work as a product designer with Modo Labs. There I gained experience designing and frontend developing for native mobile applications and responsive web. I gained renewed appreciation for the collaboration between design and engineering, learning a fourth coding language in order to have more interactive prototypes and technical discourse.

Currently I work back in FinTech with Manulife/John Hancock as a Senior Experience Designer. You can also find me mentoring on ADPList, taking prototyping and AI design courses, and singing with the Metropolitan Chorale.
