About the company
John Hancock is one of the largest life insurers in the U.S., offering high coverage limits with few age restrictions. They offer an array of other financial products and services, including retirement plans, investments, long-term care insurance, annuities, and college savings plans.
The initiative
I partnered with our architecture team to improve sign in and registration experiences in support of their vision to promote user interactions that are frictionless; where privacy is paramount; and we effortlessly manage and safeguard customers' identities in a connected world.
Success included:
Improving the registration success rate
Evolving from long single forms into multi-step with user friendly language; consistent styling, clear errors and alerts if they arise; improved accessibility; responsive design.
Quicker time to market to deploy per property by evolving from individual HTML-based to component/React-based.
Enhanced security like multifactor authentication; passwordless sign-in; external ID verification.
My role
Understand security and compliance initiatives from architecture team.
Prototype sign in and registration experiences that satisfy requirements while providing clarity, simplicity, and minimal friction.
Establish templates for designers, developers, and product owners to utilize for consistent layout, language, and components as sign in and registration flows were implemented across a dozen web properties.
Helped usability test to refine choices and worked with contractor to establish Figma component system.
Worked with global design partner to ensure scalability.
